Dunham Technique
Dunham Technique is a modern dance technique created by Katherine Dunham, the matriarch of Black dance. Dunham technique engages the mind, body and spirit in a series of movement patterns, isolations, progressions and exercises informed by the traditional dances of the African Diaspora as well as by modern and ballet.
This contemporary Dunham class will focus on using Dunham technique in contemporary modern dance choreography. Beal uses political themes from original Dunham choreography to create work which addresses the social justice issues of today.
