Street and Club Styles Rep
This repertory work will use Funk Styles such as Lockin, Poppin and Breaking, Hip-Hop and House vocabulary. This will be a collaborative process that will draw from our own lived experiences while learning about the roots of Black social dances. Though these dances were historically born out of trauma and struggle, I see them as an opportunity for one’s self, freely and fully. Because of this knowledge of understanding, we can be in the creative research process of creating. This invites both members and guests of this cultural form to consider their personal histories and to use dance as a means to create discussion and embodied research that cab lead to broader perspective.
