Inspired by a collection of death and grieving rituals, three archetypal female outcasts (facing their own aging) tell an ancient story that is also the present. In recent years, Anspaugh has made four new works, all under the subject of deaths that come too soon, mourning after mornings is the one that wants to wake up. The multi-generational cast explores communal loss and mourning, reclaiming wildness, and attending to the devastating, absurd, and sacred ways we come to care for bodies and ritualize endings.

Vanessa Anspaugh, is a choreographer/performance based artist. She was born and raised in Los Angles, CA amongst an eclectic family of artists, affected by the vast urban landscape and Pacific Ocean. In 2001 she relocated to New York where she has been based for the better part of the last two decades, with time teaching and working in Maine, California and Massachusetts, her current home. Anspaugh is recent Bessie Award nominee for Most Outstanding Production for her piece, The End of Men and was a 2021 NEFA NDP Finalist, and a NEFA New Work New England recipient for her ongoing piece, Funerals for the Ocean. Anspaugh’s work has been both commissioned and presented by venues such as, The Joyce Theater, Danspace Project, New York Live Arts, and School for Contemporary Dance & Thought.
