About Robbie
Robbie Cook (he/him/his) has been professionally active in the dance field for over 25 years, including time spent in the dance communities of New York, San Francisco, Chicago, and Los Angeles. Based in Brooklyn, he is currently an Assistant Professor of Dance at Hofstra University and teaches during the summers at the American Dance Festival and Bates Dance Festival. Other teaching credits include Shenandoah Conservatory, Loyola Marymount University, Idyllwild, i Dance Festival (Hong Kong), Chadwick International School (South Korea), Japan Contemporary Dance Network (Sapporo) as a company member of Liz Lerman Dance Exchange, Universidad de Las Américas (Mexico), and IUGTE Conference (Austria). As a performer, Robbie is currently working on projects with Kota Yamazaki and Tammy Carrasco. He has performed the work of various artists throughout his career, including: Seán Curran, James Gregg, Guanglei Hui, Teena Marie Custer, Michel Kouakou, Edwaard Liang, Keith Thompson, Douglas Dunn, Margaret Jenkins, Liz Gerring and Jan Erkert. His teaching is informed by his practice of both Yoga and Pilates with a focus on anatomically based cues relevant to the practice of dance. Robbie earned an MFA in Dance from Bennington College and a BFA in Visual Art from School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
