About Jennifer
Jennifer Nugent addresses her body, mind and being through questioning. Articulating internal experiences through performance and teaching, she augments these practices by sharing and refining ideas in front of others—a transmission of spoken and gestural language. Jennifer has performed with the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company (2009-2014), Paul Matteson (2002-2020), and David Dorfman Dance (1999-2007) receiving a New York Dance and Performance Award (Bessie) for her work in the company. She has had the opportunity to work with and is inspired by Lisa Race/Race Dance, Doug Elkins, Yin Mei, Bill Young, Colleen Thomas, Kate Weare, Barbara Sloan, Dale Andree, Daniel Lepkoff, Shen Wei, Wendall Beavers, Gerri Houlihan, Patty Townsend, and Thomas F. DeFrantz. Jennifer received a Master of Fine Arts degree in 2019 from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA. In 2020 she began working with freeskewl offering classes and launched Pedagogy/Poetic Entry, a way to connect with teaching artists who amplify the importance of pedagogical thought and discourse. Currently Jennifer teaches at Sarah Lawrence College, (NY), Gibney Dance (NYC) and is continuing to work on a solo evening up against for an April 2022 premiere at Gibney Presents. jennifernugent.com
