Lauren Warnecke is a freelance writer and editor, focused on dance and cultural criticism in Chicago and across the Midwest. Lauren is the dance critic for the Chicago Tribune, editor of See Chicago Dance, and founder/editor of Art Intercepts, with bylines in Chicago Magazine, Milwaukee Magazine, St. Louis Magazine and Dance Media publications, among others. Holding degrees in dance and kinesiology, Lauren is an instructor of dance and exercise science at Loyola University Chicago. In 2015, Lauren completed a five-week residency program in Dublin, Ireland to better understand aesthetic competence in western dance forms across cultures. She has presented her work at professional conferences including the International Association for Dance Medicine and Science (IADMS), the National Dance Education Organization (NDEO), and the Midwest Sport and Exercise Psychology Symposium (MSEPS). From 2017-18, Lauren was selected to participate in an inaugural low-res dance writing lab at the National Center for Choreography at the University of Akron. She has served as a writer in residence for the Bates Dance Festival and the JOMBA! Contemporary Dance Experience, where she facilitated a dance writing intensive for students at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban, South Africa. Lauren has numerous speaking credits and is sought as a moderator, panelist, and lecturer with universities, dance companies and performance venues throughout the Chicagoland area.
