“Yes, And” is a site-specific, multi-disciplinary performance series exploring what it means to live as our most authentic selves. Each iteration is shaped by its location, community, and moment in time, evolving through residencies and local engagement. Through dance and immersive experiences, the project celebrates Black women and femmes while inviting all participants to challenge limiting beliefs, embrace joy, and build community. “Yes, And – Maine” will be an interactive gallery experience at L/A Arts, activated by members of Gesel Mason Performance Projects, Bates Dance Festival participants, and the Maine community, fostering connection and self-expression through movement and shared experience.

Gesel R. Mason is a choreographer, performer, and Associate Professor at the University of Texas at Austin. As Artistic Director of Gesel Mason Performance Projects, she uses dance to interrogate cultural identities, challenge societal norms, and foster compassionate human connection. Her work examines how society manufactures otherness, inviting audiences to question assumptions and envision new possibilities.
